Who I Am

Instructional Architectural Designer

Collaborator, Leader, Change maker

My short term professional goals include to continue working for District of Columbia Public Schools, but in a different capacity upon graduation. This district school system is transitioning all 48,000 students to 1:1 in the next five years. I currently am training teachers within my team on how to implement technology, but in the future I will be working as a cluster support technology specialist to assist school leadership teams with this transition. Additionally, I am seeking freelance work for instructional design in my free time. Beyond that, my vision will take my life to Chief Technology Officer or some position similar to that in the public or private sectors.

Teacher & Creator

From my short-term to my long term-goals, visionary sight is a common theme. I have been fortunate with the ability to not only envision what the goal is, but also what detailed steps are required to achieve success in reaching the goal. I contribute my best, most efficient and effective work ethic, grit, and skills when I collaborate on projects in my professional community. My contributions to the organization are evident in the products I create and the consensus on exceptionalism heard by my colleagues whose teams I am described as a member and a leader. The key for success is community. More specifically, a collaboration of individuals who work towards a vision. This idea is a large reason why I am so effective. Educational technology is after all for the masses not an individual. Therefore, input from all stakeholders is always key to a successful end goal.

I have always had a passion for integrating technology in education in innovative ways. My colleagues call me “the tech guru”. If they have an issue with a device or a program, my mere presence makes it work or so they would have you think. That and the analytical skills I employ to find the root cause. During my undergraduate studies, I elected to take a course titled “Technology Integration in the English Classroom”. After taking this course, I was hooked. I began to see teaching and learning in an entirely new way. I began designing units that incorporated technology where students were communicating, collaborating, and creating content online. When I was able to implement these elements into my practice as an educator, I saw the limitless potential technology granted me in the classroom. Most recently, I became a Modern Classrooms Project fellow. The program has three key proponents: blended, self-paced, and mastery-based learning.

M.S., SPED Educator

I want to thank you for your steadfast support and encouragement Especially the way you support me to learn how to navigate new technology rather than just providing a quick fix ( which would be easier for you ) but do nothing to build my skills and capacity...I can’t find words to thank you for all the ways you have helped me get more confidence to try new things and just explore way outside of my natural comfort zone.

M.M., Educator

Torre has been extremely helpful! I am grateful that he is extremely knowledgeable about Canvas and Microsoft Team platforms and has enabled me to build a platform that is well organized and user friendly to my students! He is extremely enjoyable to work with and looks for ways to make the work fun! He started virtual Happy Hours for us on Fridays, where the 11/12th grade team gets together to release and connect with each other weekly! He has displayed leadership by organizing our team meetings, providing and preparing materials for the meeting, and developing Powerpoint presentations and leading 11th grade town halls for our students! I think the best think I like about him is that he always looks for ways to improve our systems and protocols and if he can assist in that process he will!.

K.F., Modern CLassrooms Executive Director

Lucas Torre is an extraordinary educator who deeply values the importance of building a student-centered classroom built around mastery. He seamlessly weaves in education technology to enhance the learning environment to ensure he can spend the bulk of his class time supporting students' unique needs.
